It’s been on the chilly side here in Mexico recently and some days I just want to stay in my cozy little apartment. Even though I love to cook, it’s a special treat to have food delivered. And there are so many amazing options on the little island of Isla Mujeres. On our Facebook Page “Isla Mujeres’ Food” there are daily posts about a wide variety of foods lovingly made in home kitchens and available for delivery. On this particular day I was craving pasta. 

It’s one of my favourite comfort foods. The release of serotonin from a feed of carbs always feels like a warm hug. So we had dinner delivered by Vida Isla. A small family business owned by couple Miguel and Lorena Moreno. The parents to one year old Amelie, are born and raised islanders. Their passion for cooking and desire to offer Italian gastronomy with a Mexican touch has resulted in a lovely variety of pasta dishes at extremely affordable prices. Dishes start at 115 pesos for four cheese macaroni with the most expensive being only 220 pesos for the shrimp and mussels marinara. 

We had the penne in a bolognese sauce. The pasta was perfectly al dente and the depth of flavour of the sauce tasted like it had simmered all day. It was a meaty rich tomato sauce that had me wanting to lick my plate. 

We also had the spaghetti with mussels. Plentiful and plump, the mussels did not disappoint. The wine sauce was a perfect mix of aromatics with the delicate taste of white wine and butter.  

Both were generous portions served with slices of garlic bread. 

“We are always looking for the best quality products, bringing new ideas to our dishes, and thinking about the tastes of our customers.” says Miguel. 

His passion for cooking started at a young age, when his dad, who had always worked in the restaurant field, started to show him the delicacies of food and ways to make customers happy through the kitchen. 

“When we started the venture three years ago we had ideas of what people liked and created a menu focused on that. Over the years we have incorporated more options with the suggestions based on the tastes of our own customers.” 

So if you find yourself unmotivated to head out for dinner one evening, I would highly recommend ordering from Vida Isla.
