Esteban’s Kitchen-Isla Mujeres Food Feature 2026

February6

When Esteban and his family came from the state of Tlaxcala to Isla Mujeres it was just going to be for a two week vacation. But soon the family found themselves gainfully employed and seven years later they are still here. And what a gift they are to this community!

Everyone who has ever met Esteban (junior) just adores him. For years I stayed in a hotel a few doors down from where he worked so I would pass him multiple times a day. He always shared a kind greeting and bright smile. He has the gift of hospitality, making everyone feel important and welcome. Last night when he delivered our dinner I got to have a short visit with him. He has a real love for family, community and food. I felt I had a kindred spirit.

Esteban’s kitchen was created a year and a half ago. This family run business consists of Father, Esteban senior, son Esteban junior, sisters Ximena and Mishel and talented mother Lorena.

Every day Esteban’s Kitchen features a daily special giving Lorena the opportunity to continually explore her passion for food.

The daily features range from traditional dishes like mole to fusion dishes like teriyaki chicken fajitas. The day we ordered the special was shrimp tossed salad. Crispy greens, slivers of red bell pepper, sliced avocado and corn were topped with a generous serving a super flavourful large shrimp and a side of ranch dressing. It was refreshing and satisfying.

Our second selection was chicken enchiladas Suiza. It’s one of my favourite Mexican dishes. Tortillas are stuffed with Oaxaca cheese and chicken, in this version the chicken was pan seared pieces that gave it an additional layer of flavour. The enchiladas are smothered in a green sauce made of chilis, tomatillos, onion, & garlic and topped with a drizzle of Mexican creama. Then garnished with shredded lettuce and sliced avocado. It was a delicious and savoury dish with a hint of sour from the tomatillos and creamy goodness from the Oaxaca cheese.

With this cold snap we’ve been experiencing it was a nice option to stay cozy and have dinner brought to us. It’s easy to order. Just send them a message on their Facebook page or on WhatsApp. They deliver to the whole island, from north beach to Punta Sur. They are open seven days a week and would be a great option if you need to cater for a big group.

Kath’s quote: “When love meets the kitchen, magic happens.”

Love never fails.
