Isla Mujeres Trip Report Day Ten

April2

Sunrise walk.

Donna and I attended Isla Church together.

Shopped for produce at the market then home for lunch. Spent the afternoon on the beach with Kelly and Lorraine.

Headed home for some hammock reading and supper.

A solo walk after supper then another group lap with the gang. Home to get organized for the week. Life is good.

Kath’s quote: “Travel isn’t always pretty. It isn’t always comfortable. Sometimes it hurts, it even breaks your heart. But that’s okay. The journey changes you; it should change you. It leaves marks on your memory, on your consciousness, on your heart, and on your body. You take something with you. Hopefully, you leave something good behind.” – Anthony Bourdain

Isla Mujeres Trip Report-Day Nine

April1

Another beautiful sunrise.

No, I never tire of these.

The mascot for the ladies in our compound.

A great leftover lunch with Donna

and then off to the beach with Kelly and Lorraine where I finally finish my book.

Home for an iced coffee at happy hour.

The promise of a beautiful sunset as we walk to the cab loop.
Sunset from the cab.

Then off to Caribbean Brisas at sunset

where we savoured our first lobster feed

and the fruita de mare was outstanding!

Every time I visit the island, I come away with new friendships. My life is so good and I know it.

Isla Mujeres 2025 Trip Report-Day Eight

March31

This is as close as I got to sunrise that morning. The wind was howling and I still had my nightie on and I didn’t want to risk the wind blowing it to my waist! I wrote and posted two Restaurant Features in the am. That is how productive I can be when not hanging out on the Malecon all morning.

My friends Jeff and Ben were ferrying over from Cancun for the day. Things were detained at their end so I took some ferry terminal pics.

I like nothing better than being an Isla tour guide. We walked from the ferry along Centro beach and then North beach to Media Luna Beach when we cut in to pick up a new dress from Hortencia.

The guys wanted to see Punta Sur so we took the east road there in a cab and the west road back. We didnt linger at the south point as the wind was almost hurricane force there.

Back in Centro we yacked at El Patio Happy Hour, to discover that Jeff and my niece Alicia are related!

That evening we headed to our fav Grill Garden for a fabulous dinner before the guys headed back to the ferry for their return. Sister Sue and brother Kelly joined us as well as sister in law Lorraine and friend Donna. Here is the Grill Garden Restaurant Feature that Sister Sue wrote: https://foodmusings.ca/isla-mujeres/isla-mujeres-2025-restaurant-features-grill-garden-by-sister-sue/

Isla Mujeres 2025 Trip Report Day Seven

March29
Reflected sunrise

One of the many reasons I love Isla, is watching the sky at sunrise.

On this day, neither Sue or I had writing to do so we grabbed a bus and headed mid island for brunch at Casa Mkx.

MapChickapps has a new navigational feature and Sue followed our progress and then she shouted to the driver to let us off. That’s the way the system works here.

The food as shown in this blog link here: ( https://foodmusings.ca/isla-mujeres/isla-mujeres-2025-restaurant-features-casa-mkx-written-by-sister-3/ ) is art and that is because a former Madera chef is at the helm.

When you have a meal, you are welcome to use the pool which is lovely. There are also classes under the palapa. We witnessed a boxing class and salsa dancing had been scheduled at 8 am. It was nice to get out of Centro for part of the day.

After a brief Happy Hour with Donna and visit with neighbour Cheryl, I was out the door again.

This time to dine with our friend Gustavo at Isla Burger. Brother Kelly and his wife Lorraine joined me. The food was perfect, as usual. Here is the Restaurant Feature that I wrote for the blog. https://foodmusings.ca/isla-mujeres/isla-mujeres-2025-restaurant-features-isla-burger/. Gustavo has met many members of my family including my niece and goddaughter Dani and her husband Dylan who live in Australia!

When the rain started, Kelly gave up his poncho for me. What a guy! In the rain I joined Donna for the 4 Nations Hockey final. It was fun to watch with an equal number of US and Canadian fans. It was a full and wonderful day filled with family and friends, old and new.

Isla Mujeres Trip Report -Day Six

March28

Learning how to let it go…  Why is this a lesson I have to learn over and over again?

I was still at sunrise

and then I did a loop around my hood.

Here’s another question: If this suffices as my kitchen in Centro, why do I have to have such a well stocked and appointed one in Canada?
My little balcony that I am so grateful for in a Centro apartment

I had missed our cleaner the day prior so I waited all day for her and she never came. I had lots of writing to do anyway but I got all indignant about that. Why? Well today I dont know why. I am letting go.

My only glimpse of sunset that evening.

There was a misunderstanding about our dinner arrangements

I do love dining on Hidalgo. People watching is almost as good as the food! I said “almost”.
Donna enjoyed her tortellini in rose sauce.
Sue loved her fruita de mare pasta. The foil is to keep the dish piping hot. The only other place i have seen it served this way? Riomaggiore, Italy!
I order eggplant everywhere I go. How did Momma Rosa’s stack up? Top Five in the World!

but we ended up at Mama Rosa’s, a place I had never been before. The food was amazing and the evening was a lovely one!

Let it go, let it go…
