Isla Mujeres Trip Report-Day 12

December14

Fabulous sunrise this morning.

isladay12-1 isladay12-2 isladay12-3 isladay12-4 isladay12-5 isladay12-6

Another glorious sunrise where we worked up an appetite for a Isla ham & egg breakfast.

isladay12-7

Relatively slim pickings while beachcombing for beach glass.

isladay12-8 isladay12-9

We walked to town for a pareo at Hortenzia’s.

isladay12-10 isladay12-11

Once a season, Hortenzia will leave the shop under a family members’ watchful eye, to join us with a couple of the grandkids on the beach.

As we prepared to hail a cab back to the airport strip, a couple of gals offered us a lift in their golf cart. It occurred to us that this would be a great way to meet more fellow travellers and save some cab money. We only rent for one day over a couple of weeks but we are committed to offering people a lift, just like the kindness that we received.

We headed home for nachos and beer.

D napped before sunset at Playa Sol with the gang and then dinner at Fredy’s.

We all had Fredy’s pork chops while Carol had Fredys’s shrimp and cousin Sandra the Mexican plate. Everybody loved their dinner.

For dessert we strolled Hidalgo and treated ourselves to Ferrero Roche ice cream cones.

We grabbed a taxi home for wine and waves.

isladay11-7

D & Rich had Mexican omelettes,

isladay11-16

Jean and I chicken and rice soup.

isladay11-8

We visited Hortenzia and D had a play with the kids.

isladay11-9 isladay11-11 isladay11-12

We walked from the airport strip to Centro and home again.

isladay11-13

Finished my book in the sun and did some more beachcombing.

isladay11-17 isladay11-18 isladay11-19 isladay11-20 isladay11-21

We watched the sunset from our place and what a sunset! We thought the first pic was terrific and then each stage was better and better.

isladay11-27

Bro #3 & L picked us up en route to Basto’s Grill.

isladay11-23

isladay11-26

Chillies Relleno for me.

isladay11-25

Hamburger Especiale for everyone else (ham, burger and arrcetta steak)! Everyone loved it.

We all visited Sergio for nightcap #1 before heading home for wine under the stars.

Isla Mujeres Trip Report-Day 10

December7

No sunrise so I unconsciously decided to sleep until 9:30! D had already gotten the paper by the time I was up. Spent all day in the sun doing nothing. Did a lot of reading of “Girl on a Train”.

isladay10-1 isladay10-2 isladay10-3 isladay10-4 isladay10-5

We walked into Centro for dinner. There was no sunset again.

isladay10-7

isladay10-9

We get such a kick out of the décor at La Lomita. We watched while all these magnolia blossoms were being painted onto the walls a couple of years ago.

isladay10-8

I swear they have the best French fries. I don’t mean the best on Isla or the best in Mexico, I mean THE BEST fries I have ever tasted in my life anywhere!

We were dining at Sardinian Smile but were too early for Sylvia so we went to La Lomita for beer and fries. We were over the moon with Sardinian Smile (follow the link for the full feature).

isladay10-11

We were home in time for wine & the stars.

December6

isladay8-19 isladay8-20

No sunrise to speak of but a wonderful morning routine returned.

isladay9-1 isladay9-2

D walked to town

isladay9-4

while I went sea glass hunting. I made egg salad sandwiches for our breakfast. I had a nap as I hadn’t slept very well. It must have been the Kahlua night cap. D was in the hammock and I finished my book.

isladay9-5

isladay9-6

It was a lovely lazy day. I went shelling twice. D did a lot of research on places to stay in 2017.

isladay9-7

A late shower and then some time on the front porch with Gloria & Huw.

isladay9-8

isladay9-11

isladay9-9 isladay9-10

We were heading to the Grill Night Buffet at Priviledge Aluxes, but stopped to have a peak in the graveyard en route .

isladay9-12

isladay9-13 isladay9-14

We loved the décor, rib-eye, apps, desserts, etc.

isladay9-15

D and I on the bottom left, my second cousin across from us, her husband beside us, Bro #3 and L at the opposite end of the table and new friends G & C.

A good time was had by all!

Isla Mujeres Trip Report-Day 8

December1

isladay8-1

The next morning was very windy with no sunrise. D finished his book and then we packed up for our move to Luna d’ Miel. There was an absolute cloud burst, then we thought it had cleared for our 11 am check out. Unfortunately that was only the first of a number of cloudbursts and we got soaked to the skin walking the sort distance to Roca Mar for a cab and then unloading at Luna d’Miel.

isladay8-2 isladay8-3

Our apartment was still occupied so we headed to D’Luisa’s where we had cappuccinos and dried off.

isladay8-4 isladay8-5

We still had another 3 hours until check in. As you can see above, I spent much of the time beachcombing.

isladay8-7 isladay8-8 isladay8-9

We walked through Colonias but stuck as close to the water as we could.

isladay8-10 isladay8-11 isladay8-12

We love staying on the airport strip where our neighbours  have million dollar homes along side the simplest of structures.

isladay8-13

We arrived back at Luna D’Miel about 1:30 and after a five minute wait for the floor to dry, we were home.

isladay8-14 isladay8-15

isladay8-18

D immediately took up permanent residence in the hammock and I ventured out a couple of times to beach comb and then it rained again, another time to read in the sun and then it rained again.

isladay8-16

We both felt much calmer and more relaxed at Luna D’Miel. We can’t explain it though.

isladay8-17

We arranged to have Bro #3 & L pick us up on their way to Casa de los Suenos. We were disappointed that there was no sunset but the staff were great hosts. We shared a cab home to listen to the Winnipeg Jets game and read our books.
