Isla Mujeres 2025 Trip Report Day Eighteen

April24

D was out the door to meet up with his tennis buddies very early. I was hoping that it would give me a chance to sit and enjoy the start of the day. And then I thought “why do I have to miss out on this gorgeous morning because of my writing?” so I set my laptop up on the terrace and I got at it!

Stopped for a coconut yoghurt breakfast. Had a hammock nap before lunch. D spent the afternoon by the pool while I hung out in the shade.

We walked into town

for a wonderful dinner at Fredys.

Super entertainment was provided by the carnival dancers. Coconut ice cream at Juanitas for dessert. We split a cab home with R & M. The time spent with old friends is never wasted.

Isla Mujeres Trip Report Day Seventeen

April22

This was the beautiful sunrise from our terrace.

We cabbed into town for Island Church hosted by Ken Wanovich. We have made friends with he and his wife over the years and we love this part of our Isla routine. Afterwards we made our way to the fresh market and then we planned on taking the bus to Chedrai to stock the fridge.

We got chatting with our family on Centro Beach and saw our bus go by. D and I had to RUN (!) for the bus. As is often the way,  then we waited 10 minutes for the bus to leave.

It was a hot walk home from Chedrui so we had a little lunch and then pool time. Yippee.

There was a Mayan wedding ceremony being performed on our beach. The bride and groom stayed in the suite below us. They were also Canadians but from Montreal. We have pictures but they are on D’s phone. Sorry.

We walked into Centro to meet Melinda and Richard (our best friends from Toronto) at the ferry terminal.

We had to make our way through the Carnival crowds to Jax for dinner and the Oscars. The newly arrived and the tuckered out left sister Sue and I to watch until the end. Sue walked me to the taxi station and I was whisked away. Another absolutely perfect day.

Trip Report 2025, Day 16, Doug’s Arrival

April21

This was last sunrise from the Malecon.

I tried to get caught up on my writing, but I had to finish packing and check out.

Donna helped me move because I had too many things to carry myself. She also waited with me to check in.

I LOVED our new digs.

The best part were the views from our bedroom window and the balcony.

After unpacking, I had enough time to let me new surroundings soak in with a glass of wine.

I kept in touch with my husband Doug as he made his way to the island. When I saw the shadows lengthening I knew that his arrival was that much closer. I tried to hail a cab to meet his ferry. At least a dozen cabs whizzed past me, until one driver (I think it was the one that delivered me with all my luggage) took pity on me and let me climb in with 4 other occupants. The men in the back seat with me were not petite and I know that they were inconvenienced by the cabbie’s kindness. We were not quite into Centro when traffic was at a standstill. The Carnevale crowds were crazy! So I paid for the lift and said adios to my cab mates and walked the rest of the way.

Carnevale was in full swing at a stage set up right in front of the ferry terminal. It was a bit of a schmalz getting someone to drive us and D’s luggage mid island, but we finally arrived at our little piece of paradise for the rest of my stay.

We had a delicious charcuterie supper as we sat on our balcony. I highly recommend this treat on your arrival day. Read all about it here: https://foodmusings.ca/isla-mujeres/isla-mujeres-2025-restaurant-features-valentine-box-by-ttb-cheese-boards-and-select-charcuterie/

Once the sun set, we moved to our east facing balcony, with D sharing greetings from home and me filling him in on the details of the past two weeks. Ahhh. Another fresh start.

Isla Mujeres Trip Report 2025 Day Fifteen

April17

A long and wonderful day starting with the sunrise.

I walked to Play Norte and then along its empty sand.

I made my way to my favourite Isla bakery-Dulzara. To read all about them, follow this link: https://foodmusings.ca/isla-mujeres/isla-mujeres-2025-restaurant-features-dulzara-bakery/

It was home for a croissant breakfast and then back to the beach.

Donna and I walked home for an amazing Yiron lunch delivery with Sue. Check out all the details here: https://foodmusings.ca/isla-mujeres/isla-mujeres-2025-restaurant-feature-yiron-delivery-by-sister-sue/

Then it was back to the beach with Donna.

I started saying goodbye to my neighbours Donna (a different Donna) and Jan as my time in Centro was almost up.

I had an amazing dinner at Samura with Kelly and Lorraine. The delicious details are in this blog link: https://foodmusings.ca/isla-mujeres/isla-mujeres-2025-restaurant-features-samura-japanese-cuisine-and-jungle-bar/ Then it was back to Centro for Carnevale. We walked a couple of laps of Hidalgo and then I stopped for wine on the Malecon with Lorraine. This was my favourite day so far on the trip.

Isla Mujeres Trip Report Day 14

April15

The sunrise that morning was nothing short of spectacular.

I call this picture: “Yes I am old, but I am happy”

Took my 2nd cup of coffee to Centro beach, which I had all to myself. I loved it!

I headed home for breakfast and then back to the beach again.

I took a long and leisurely nap in the hammock. It was my only beach nap of my month long stay. I spent a lovely Happy Hour with Jan and Donna.

Baby sister Sue and I

That evening we were out to Marina Bartolomé. Their setting, right on the water by the ferry was gorgeous.

The beverages and food was stellar too. Follow this blog link for all of the details: https://foodmusings.ca/isla-mujeres/isla-mujeres-2025-restaurant-features-marina-bartalome-by-sister-sue/

After dinner I met up with Donna at Snappers for part of the Jets game. It was a perfect day, especially on the beach.
